Summer camp at Demarest

Residents of Demarest can now look forth to a fun filled summer for their children from June 30th to August 8th, 2008. The Demarest summer camp is about to begin and children from the ages of 4 to 11 can join here. A fee of $400 would be charged per ward for Demarest residents while the fee would be $500 for non residents of Demarest. The summer camp would be on for six weeks and children can participate in the range of events that include arts, crafts, sports, trips, water activities and many other special events. However residents need to register their wards for the camp within June 13th. Registrations can be made through mail and after the deadline there would be a late fee of $100. Those who want to opt for walk in registrations, can go to the Demarest borough hall on May 12th and 13th from 5pm to 8pm.

Food for thought in Bergen County

A new online computer system is being popularly used by many restaurants in Bergen County. The website known as opentable.com can be used by restaurant goers to book their tables before hand and also give food preferences. Restaurants in Bergen County and the neighborhood are also using the services to maintain easily accessible data about their customers. This data includes food preferences, allergies, complaints, table preferences and whether customers have cancelled reservations before. While customers find it easy to book through the website, restaurant owners are also finding great benefit in the software. Many stated that they were able to convert previous bad experiences into good ones and were also able to provide good customer service due to their knowledge of the customer's individual tastes. While many diners have become regulars at restaurants because of this service, many customers also claim to find the service intrusive. As per the manager of Palmer Crossing, restaurant in Tenafly, many walk in diners do not always want to give their names.

Events for Fort Lee residents

Residents of Fort Lee can now participate in the annual arts and music festival that is about to begin from June 1, 2008. The event will include a range of activities like free entertainment, food vendors, arts, crafts, farmer's market and an art show which would be judged by a jury. Besides these events, there would also be a Harley Davidson motorcycle show in the adjacent municipal lot. While vendors and artists from Fort Lee can participate in the event free of cost, those residing outside Fort Lee need to pay registration charges of $50. Applications for participating can be downloaded at the Fort Lee website and can also be availed from the Fort Lee office of cultural and heritage affairs.

EnCap is now cut off

The troubled project regarding the redevelopment of Meadowlands using the prowess of Donald Trump has now been stumped. As per the New Jersey Meadowlands commission, which oversees the meadowlands and its development, EnCap is no more. In new developments, the state announced that it has cut all ties with EnCap Golf Holdings, the organization that had planned to build houses in the meadowlands. Also plans presented by Donald Trump were noted as inadequate as an unconditional financial plan was not provided. Trump and the Cherokee investment partners, leading investors in the project, expressed disappointment adding that this move could make things difficult for taxpayers. However officials of the Meadowlands commission stated that there were significant misinterpretations when the project proposal was reviewed.

Efforts on to improve flood affected areas

Efforts are on in Bergen County and the neighborhood to keep towns out of flooded areas. In this regard, Fair Lawn is expecting to qualify for open space funds. It also expects to gain federal funding so it may purchase a frequently flooded house along the Passaic River. New Milford in Bergen County will also receive funds from the Federal Emergency Management Agency for purchasing two houses. Additionally four houses would be removed along Hackensack River and Hirschfield brook. The National Weather service also issued a flood watch in Bergen County and nearby areas on Friday, 9th May, 2008. The state of New Jersey also compiled extensive data available at http://www.nj.gov/drbc/Flood_Website/floodinf.htm to help residents be alert and prepare better.
