Candles were lit in memory of the four Tenafly residents who were killed in the attacks: Douglas Gurian, Hagay Shefi, Keiji Takahashi and Glenn Travers, as well as others who were known and active in the community who were lost. Family members of the victims and the first responders who were affected by the attacks were honored as well. Afterward, THS students Alex Cadmus and Brett Sherman played “Taps.
Over 200 people came together at the Peace Plaza at Tenafly Borough Hall on Sunday 9/11 to commemorate and honor those who lost their lives in the terror attacks.
Former Mayor Ann Moscovitz, who acted as the mistress of ceremonies for the event, introduced keynote speaker WOR-TV anchor Brenda Blackmon, a Tenafly resident who was among the press covering the attacks, resident William Michael Dillon, who performed an original song, “September Skies,” for the first time at the ceremony, and Councilman Anthony Barzelatto, who was among the first responders that day.
