Penlyn, built in a natural hollow on the Palisades cliffs, more or less hidden from the river, was left standing when other cliff-top housing was demolished, and in 1956, it became Palisades Interstate Park Headquarters.

The New Jersey Section of the Palisades Interstate Park is in northeastern Bergen County, New Jersey, and is part of the parklands and historic sites maintained by the Palisades Interstate Park Commission. The land in the NJ Section is about 13 miles long and half a mile wide at its widest, with about 2,500 acres of wild Hudson River shoreline, including the Palisades Cliffs. 30 miles of hiking trails, two public boat basins, a boat launching ramp, four riverfront picnic areas, a scenic riverside drive, a cliff-top Parkway with three scenic overlooks, a nature sanctuary, historic sites, and mile after mile of rugged woodlands and vistas just minutes from your new Alpine dream home as well as midtown Manhattan are all within this land.
