It was projected that the number of wealthy households in Bergen County that have $1 million or more in liquid assets will increase by 37 percent over four years. This figure is expected to reach 9,499 in 2008. Comparatively the wealthy households in Hudson County are expected to increase by 47 percent, to 3,320. Passaic County is projected to have 3,075 wealthy households, an increase of 37 percent similar to Bergen County.
Bank Boom in New Jersey
Banks are now striving for presence in New Jersey by buying up smaller banks and opening new branches as per reports that came in March, 05. This is reportedly because New Jersey has the best demographics in the entire nation. For example, the household median income in New Jersey was reported to be at $58,588 in 2003. This figure has remained the highest in the nation for the second straight year, according to the latest data available from the U.S. Census Bureau. Also with property values on the rise, banks do more business by writing mortgages and making home equity loans.
Smokers in Bergen county May Have to Smoke at Home
Smokers in Bergen county and other parts of New Jersey may soon need to stop smoking at public places. After a decade long drive towards making New Jersey smoke free, the movement gained momentum on Monday, March 14, 2005 when a senate committee approved a bill banning smoking in public venues where people socialize and light up. These include restaurants, bars, social clubs and even casinos. The latest version of the New Jersey Smoke-Free Air Act would ban smoking in venues left out of earlier versions of the bill, including social clubs such as VFW halls and country clubs. Fortunately for Bergen County smokers, they can still smoke at home.
Super Fast Internet for Bergen County
Fifteen Bergen county towns and the city of Passaic will now receive Verizon’s fastest Internet service through its fiber optic network. Company officials stated on March 9, 2005 that over 200,000 homes across the state will be connected by year-end. New Jersey is the 14th state where Verizon will build the network that delivers phone, Internet, and television service. At competition with cable companies, Verizon’s super-fast FiOS, will start selling by June in some towns. The company will offer three tiers of Internet connection speeds with prices from $35 to $200 a month. It plans to spend more than $200 million this year on the project. Over 500 new employees will be hired along with many additional contractors to build the network.
