Wait and watch for a home, but not too long
As the Bergen County real estate market sends mixed signals, there begins to emerge a growing need for potential home buyers and home sellers to understand the housing market in their town and its neighborhood. For example, real estate experts suggest that the Fort Lee Real Estate market has become one of ‘wait and watch’. As prices have fallen in the past, many speculate that the home prices will fall further over the coming months. Statistics reveal that as prices drop at an approximate of one percent per month, there is a speculation that prices may drop by 9% in 2009. Many of the serious home buyers thus have their sights fixed on properties of their interest and most are getting good home deals for lesser prices. While it is good to wait and watch, it is not advisable to wait too long for as prices on homes drop, mortgage rates are likely to go up and thus make homes expensive. Also the market is not stagnant but brisk business is on as people seal in on home deals that were never before possible.
Residents of Bergen County can now participate in their movement against diabetes. This walk will be conducted across Bergen County towns of Fort Lee and Cliffside Park on Sunday, 17th May, 2009. This 5k walk is being undertaken to benefit the Diabetes foundation and will begin with an inaugural address given at 9:45 am. Check-ins for the walk will begin from 7:30 am onwards and those interested can reach the venue at the time. Simultaneously a health fair is also being planned at the Cliffside Park High school cafeteria from 9:30 am to 1pm. This program will cover nutrition, diet plans, exercise ideas and screening for diabetes and cholesterol among other things. However forms need to filled and those interested in participating in the walk however need to fill up registration forms that are available online atwww.raceforum.com and www.firstgiving.com. An entry fee of $20 will be charged from the participants and awards will be handed out on the basis of participation and age. All proceeds from this event will benefit the needy members of the Diabetes foundation. This foundation helps its various members through medical assistance, education and campership programs.
Historic building repairs under debate
Ownership of the historic Campbell-Christie house may soon be handed over to the Historic New Bridge Landing Park Commission. In new developments, the officials of Bergen County decided that it may be best to hand over the house to historians who can decide on how to best administer it. This Bergen County property is located in River Edge, and faces various issues. For one, the building has structural defects and the center of the building is sinking. The second floor of the building also cannot take much weight and one of its two chimneys threatens to fall. The sides of the building are also being pushed outwards, reasons that have led housing inspectors to hand it the unsafe structures notice. The building and its proposed repairs have also been a source of discord between the county, the Bergen County historical society and the commission. Of these, the commission has expressed that it has not been involved in the proposed planning. Officials of the county stated that the building cannot be handed over directly to the historical society but will have to give the lease to the parks commission, a state agency.
Preparations for the Demarest Annual Spring fair are now about to begin. Conducted by the Demarest Public library, this fair is scheduled to be held on Saturday, May 16th, 2009. The event will be held at the Demarest Duck Pond and will begin from 10am up to 4pm. A rain date of May 23rd has also been given for the event, lest there be a need to postpone it due to some reasons. As always, this event promises much range in activities and offerings to people across all ages. Participants can thus look forward to fine arts and crafts, live music, discounted books, white elephant sale and sale of a range of new merchandise. Food wise, the event will offer a range of baked goods and will also bring forth food concessions on traditional Indian, Chinese and Japanese cuisines. Children can look forth to events like rock climbing and a range of rides, meant just for them. Exhibitors who wish to display their work at the event can contact the Demarest Public Library by May 8th, 2009 where they can access the form and other relevant details.
