Real Estate Market in Bergen County

As home buyers in Bergen County get more and more selective and home sellers increasingly competitive, the Bergen County real estate market has become more dynamic. Gathering as much information as possible on various Bergen County towns, their neighborhoods, current real estate prices and government incentives on purchasing, has become essential, according to real estate experts. One town where luxury real estate continues to be popular is Alpine. An affluent neighborhood in the northeastern corner of Bergen County, Alpine’s median home sale price is $3.4 million. On many occasions, Alpine has been ranked one of the most expensive ZIP codes. Besides Alpine, Teaneck and Tenafly are considered excellent choices, with good schools, friendly neighborhoods and low crime rates. These towns also have good recreational facilities, retail, and parks.

Memorial Day Parade in Bergenfield

Preparations are underway for the Memorial Day parade on 31 May. Bergenfield’s annual Memorial Day parade features the participation of many residents from all walks of life. This year’s parade is scheduled to begin at 2pm, rain or shine. The Bergenfield mayor and council have invited all local organizations – military, religious, civil, youth, social, school, business, service-oriented, patriotic and other – to participate and make the event successful. Marchers will be interspersed with floats and bands, adding both color and music to the show. While Memorial Day was declared as holiday to honor those who lost their lives in the Civil War, many also mark it to honor those who gave their complete devotion to helping people in need.

Fort Lee Developers Chosen

The 15.7 acre site of the Centuria project in Fort Lee will soon be revitalized, as developers will convert it to a mixed use complex. As part of the plan to revitalize downtown Fort Lee, a conditional contract was unanimously awarded to Fort Lee Redevelopment Associates. This is a joint project of SJP Properties, Palisades Financial Investment Group and Bergen County developer James Demetrakis. Once development takes place, the area will have two high rises, a park and a cinema. Four developers had submitted their proposals for Centuria, but FLRA was chosen based on its responsiveness to borough requests and its desire to incorporate a fire station in the design. Officials added that this plan was the closest to what borough members had envisioned a downtown revitalization plan to be.

Events in Bergen County

Bergen County residents can look forward to several upcoming events. In Teaneck, for example, many will celebrate Earth Day on 20 April with a special panel discussion at Temple Emeth at 1666 Windsor Road. The event, featuring scholars, scientists and civil leaders, will provide insights on the topic, “From Generation to Generation – Creating an Environmental Legacy.” Tenafly residents can join a level one computer training course to explore the basics of computing from 19 April to 9 June. Those interested can register with Kaplen JCC on the Palisades. In Ridgewood there will be a seminar on teenagers and sleep on 21 April, a seminar on renovating landscapes by Backyard Living on 21 April and “tips on eating and cooking” by the Valley Hospital nutrition department.

Assistance Loans for Storm Damage

After severe storms and flooding affected New Jersey, a Presidential Disaster Declaration was made that covers Bergen County. Under the Small Business Administration disaster assistance program, small businesses, non profit organizations and homeowners can receive physical and economic injury disaster loans. Homeowners can access up to $200,000 in loans to repair or to replace damaged homes, as well as up to $40,000 in loans for damaged personal property. While the SBA program helps homeowners, its main objective is to offer assistance up to $2 million for businesses and non profit organizations. These loans are attractive because they feature low interest rates: 2.6% for homeowners and approximately 3% to 4% for non-profit organizations and businesses.
