New construction in Bergen County

Though the Bergen County real estate market continues its uncertainty, various housing construction projects continue to bring up new homes across various Bergen County towns. In the town of Fort Lee, 14 town homes would come up on a 40,000 sq ft property by the month of July. Located at the corner of Ellery Avenue and West Street, these fourteen homes are being constructed by the Golemis Investment Group and Mirage Construction Co. of Fort Lee. Another residential construction is also proposed in Edgewater on the Old River Road. This proposed construction comprises of 58 housing units with studio, one, two or three bedrooms. These houses would come up only if the plan is approved by the Board of Adjustments, as various variances need to be approved. The eight-storey housing construction would be the first one to come up in a non-residential property. Many variances of borough code will also need to be met. A building is currently located at the property premises, and if May Bao Ltd. Receives permission, it intends to bring down the existing building before starting construction.

As the month of May comes to a close, residents across the various towns celebrated and participated in a range of events. In the town of Cliffside Park, the Elks lodge hosted a spring dance. Organized for the local fifth, sixth and seventh graders, the event drew quite a big crowd. Students played musical games, sang and danced as they had fun out together. Also in Cliffside Park, students from first grade completed their community brochure project. During this program, visitors came to the school across the week and spoke about the kind of work they did for the town. These visitors included the town nurse, two EMTs, a police officer and fire fighters. Students were also asked to complete a brochure with details on community history, its highlights, historical events in time and important people in the community. Children collected information from a range of places including parks, police station and the library. On May 13, 2011, the Music Department of Bergenfield High School in Bergenfield presented its annual Pops concert at 8pm at the Bernard T. Baggs auditorium in the school. Michael Jackson hits and music from the Broadway musical ‘Chicago’ were also part of the program.

Englewood residents Get Fit

In the town of Englewood, residents are being urged to get into shape with the Get Fit Englewood initiative. As a part of this initiative, the health department of Englewood is urging its residents to exercise, eat right and take personal responsibility for their health. As per experts, the goal of the program is to increase awareness about the importance of fitness and help residents move towards a more active lifestyle. The program for 2011 began with a free training session in Mackay Park on May 7, 2011. Approximately 45 residents participated on the first day of the event. They were made to go through a boot-camp style training class by the three Englewood based trainers. Besides exercise, the students also received nutrition information, water bottles and a pedometer to count the number of steps taken by them. The program would go on for ten weeks up till July 23, 2011. The Health Department’s initiative to make people more aware about the importance of exercise, started off well with many participants. By the end of the session, experts are hopeful that the participants will take personal responsibility for their health.
