Massive Real Estate Developments in Teaneck

A proposal for a 196-unit luxury condominium complex in Teaneck has become an issue of debate for many. Those in favor of the plan proposed off Palisade Avenue feel that this condominium and town house complex would bring in tax revenues for the township and raise property values in Teaneck and the neighborhood. However those against the plan feel that the high density housing plan would not suit the character of the neighborhood and just make the area more crowded. This point of view has been mainly expressed by residents of Teaneck and Bogota of Bergen County. If the proposal receives approval in its current form, there would be approximately 196 condominiums and 20 town houses in the area. There would be three buildings, each with five stories to house the condominiums. One level of underground parking with 343 spaces for condos and 52 for town houses has also been proposed. These housing units would sell approximately for $450,000 to $650,000 each.

Builder to Trim Teaneck Housing Plan

A five storey high condominium complex that was causing concern for residents in the Bergen County town of Teaneck will soon be scaled down. According to reports that came in on Thursday, September 14, 2006, the developer of the complex, JMCK Corp of Ridgefield, pulled back his application from the zoning board of adjustments after residents protested. If the building would have gone as per the proposal, Teaneck would have had 52 housing units at a 66½-foot-high complex located on the southwest corner of DeGraw Avenue and Teaneck Road. The construction of the housing complex requires permission as the area is zoned for single family homes. The good news for the residents of Teaneck is that the plan would soon be altered to suit the neighborhood and may include town houses instead of condominiums. Also the number of units may be reduced by 50% to become approximately 20 or even lesser. Click here for more information about thisTeaneck Real Estate news item.

Construction Official in Ridgefield under Probation

A former construction official of Ridgefield is under probe as he faces charges of misusing his powers and misappropriating the borough funds. Robert K Rogers has been charged of various violations in zoning and missing building code. He is also said to have made many blunders that have left the borough deep in lawsuits and have cost thousands of dollars to homeowners in repairs. It came to notice on Tuesday, September 12, 2006, that Rogers quietly resigned from the Ridgefield job last November. It also came to notice that over the past two years, Rogers had also worked part-time in nine other North Jersey communities. In the year 2005 alone, he had earned over $108,000. In this time, three property owners of Ridgefield sued the borough over the last two years, but all three ended up paying thousands for constructions to comply with borough laws. Rogers has stated that he welcomes the scrutiny. He stated that the mistakes or oversights happened due to lack of time and lack of support staff.

Dumont Residents Run For A Purpose

It is the character of the residents that builds the character of the neighborhood. This came through strongly in Dumont, Bergen County, where many well-intentioned residents got together for an annual 5k race. While the race was being planned since many years, it needed impetus to get started. This push came from Marty Caspare and the memory of his late son Ryan, who had died of leukemia at the tender age of 11. In two months time, the annual race was organized and over 270 Dumont residents participated in the run. Many claimed that they did not like running, but had come for the purpose of raising funds for the children who needed the money. Within two hours, over $7000 was raised for the Ryan Caspare fund, money which goes towards local children and families of children with cancer.

Dumont Loses a Treasured Neighbor

Michael O’ Loughlin was the kind of person who made Dumont a safe and friendly neighborhood. While this police sgt. is no more, his family says that he won the battle over the colon cancer. As he died on Monday, August 21, 2006, people would always remember him as the person who always helped others and put other people first. It was probably because of this reason, that two years ago, his friends got together to organize a run to benefit him. Over 700 bikers and 129 sponsors got together for the 43-mile ride through North Jersey and raised $50,000. He had been diagnosed with the cancer in 2003, and was given just one year to live. He died at 39, and is survived by a wife and two children. Better known to family and friends as Mikey O, his memories would always be treasured.
