The cost of living in Alpine is also quite high. Reported at an index of 177, it ranks very high as compared to the cost of living index across US which is averaged at 100. The township is mainly dominated by White non-Hispanic residents that account for approximately 75% of the total population. With large mansions where one dominates the next, it is no wonder that the population density of 390 people per square mile is quite low in Alpine. The region has various interesting locations also such as the Montammy country club, Alpine lookout, camp and the Hooyler Landing. Other statistics reveal that the median house income of residents in Alpine is significantly more than other towns in the area. Also the number of rooms per home is significantly greater than other towns. Rentals however are significantly lesser in Alpine as compared to other towns.
While the entire nation continues to be in a house slump, officials are positive that certain markets like theBergen County real estate market can sustain these difficult times. Experts state that the market is attractive for many reasons. For one, the region is close to New York City, thus making it a preferred location for people who work and regularly commute to it. Secondly, the township offers a range of desirable locations for people seeking a home. From the plush neighborhood of Alpine to the resident friendly towns of Tenafly and Fort Lee, Bergen offers a wide range of choice. As per experts, demand for houses will continue to be stable in Bergen as the region faces minimal threat of new constructions. With low buildable area and good number of homes on the market, the demand for current houses options will be high. Experts also added that Bergen has an excellent infrastructure that makes it exceedingly attractive to home seekers. With good school systems, great transport facilities and excellent shopping options, the town offers a dream home in a dream neighborhood for many.

When home sales went down by 2.7%, after a short stint of gains, the market indicated once again that the house market continues to be in an insubstantial state. Statistics by the National Association of Realtors showed that home sales were noted to go down in the month of August, after showing signs of recovery from the April to July period. Figures also indicate that as per the month of August, home sales have dropped to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 5.1 million as compared to 5.24 million in July. This has worked against the predictions of economists of Thomson Reuters who had anticipated home sales to rise to 5.35 million in August. Experts added that the market continues to be fragile as home buyers are still cautious to buy. Many home sellers are also not selling their homes as they anticipate improvement in the market condition.
