Tenafly Schools

Tenafly Public Schools serve 3,680 students, with four primary schools, a middle school, and a high school, which was named by New Jersey Monthly in 1996 as the best in the state. Tenafly boasts a broad range of advanced placement and honors courses, including an interdepartmental humanities honors class which focuses on the historical and cultural development of Western civilization. More than 95% of graduates go on to higher education. Another noteworthy aspect of the school system is its music program, which runs from kindergarten through graduation. There is also a gifted and talented kids program called the Talent Bank, where volunteer boost classroom programs with their practical experience.
 
Important! As of June 19 2006 the assignments of children to elementary schools will no longer be based on a geographical residence as was the case up to then. Children will be assigned to an elementary school based on the capacity fulfilment of each school so as not to have one elementary school over crowded while the capacity of another school is under fulfilled.

Closter Public Schools is governed by the Board of Education. The Closter school system has some 900 students, spread among grades kindergarten through 8. Closter has a low ratio of teachers to students, about 1 to 15. Closter High School students attend Northern Valley Regional High School in Demarest, which was ranked 19th among New Jersey Schools. 94% of the school’s graduates go on to higher education. With computers and Internet access, the high school is one of the most technologically advanced in the country, receiving the Blue Ribbon honors in technology.

The Demarest school system is a compelling reason for families with children to make their home in the borough. The district operates three elementary schools, each with an uncommonly low student-teacher ratio. Demarest teenagers attend Northern Valley Regional High School, which was ranked 19th in the state by New Jersey Monthly magazine. The school serves some 1000 students. Placement classes in U.S. and European history, biology, chemistry, physics, calculus, Spanish, English literature and composition, and economics are offered. 94 percent of high-school graduates go on to attend college.

Leonia Schools

The Leonia Public Schools serve students in Kindergarten Twelfth grade. Enrollment in the district is 1,752, of which, 289 are Edgewater students in grades 7-12. An Early Childhood Learning Center is available for 4-year olds. This tuition-based program provides a half-day of academic activities to prepare children for kindergarten.
The district has 175 classroom teachers and 23 educational support personnel. Average class size in all 3 schools is 21 students. The budget for 2005-2006 is $21,454,000.00.
The Leonia High School Academy for Pharmacy, Medicine and Technology is in its third year. The academy prepares students for careers in the medical field. Leonia High School’s graduation requirements are among the most rigorous in the state. The school has nine periods per day with no study halls.
