Alpine School Information

The upscale neighborhood of Alpine boasts of good schools for children from kindergarten to the 8th grade. Students going to higher classes often attend the Tenafly High School as part of their sending/receiving relationship.

Tenafly Public High School

Children attend the Tenafly Public High School for education after the 8th grade. This arrangement is a part of the sending/receiving relationship built between the Tenafly and Alpine public schools. More details on this school are covered under Tenafly schools.

Alpine Public Elementary School

This is the only public school in the region and it has approximately 16 teachers. It has a student-to-teacher ratio of 9:1. Located at 500 Hillside Avenue, the school serves children right from kindergarten to the 8th grade. On average 15 children are present in each class and a total of approximately 140 students of Alpine receive education in this school. The school was noted to receive a grading of 9 out of 10 from greatschools.org, an independent site that grades schools based on various parameters.

Statistics by the New Jersey Department of Education, 2009 reveal that the comparative cost per pupil in Alpine has been at an average of $12,420. The district is classified as under District Factor Group ‘I’, which is the second highest of 8 groups. The combined average SAT score for years 2010-2011 was noted to be at 1814. The ratio between students and teachers in Alpine schools is noted at 8.5.

Extra Curricular Attractions

The town of Alpine offers much in activities for kids. The most important highlight, however, is the Palisades Interstate Park in Alpine which offers approximately 30 miles of hiking trails. Besides academics, the other highlights of the school include academic contests, band, and basketball. The ‘science and tech center’ located within the Alpine Scout Camp is also a major attraction.
