The Borough Council approved a deal that calls for the upgrade of Geissinger Field with lighting and artificial turf by a 4-2 vote.
Geissinger Field, is the Tenafly high school’s main soccer and football field. Residents and district leaders have talked about lighting and putting turf on the field for years, but the district has voted it down in the past. ( click here to read this Blog on the subject dated Oct 19)
Residents said they feared that more hours on the field would mean noise, traffic and seepage of light into their windows at all hours.
The mayor and council vowed that they would see to it that the upgrades would not infringe on neighbors’ quality of life.
“I am 100 percent determined to look after your quality of life,” Mayor Peter Rustin promised the disappointed residents after the vote. “The hours will be reasonable and the noise will be kept to a minimum. We will do what we can to make sure concerns are addressed.”
