Tenafly’s emergency management coordinator & councilman Anthony Barzelatto recently delivered a presentation on how to protect your family and property during storms and other natural disaster events.
The presentation was delivered at the Senior Center on July 18th as part of the town’s and Bergen County’s efforts to enhance & implement lessons learned during the storms of Sandy in 2012, Irene in 2011 & the nor’easter 2010.
Tenafly has designated a number of buildings in town to serve as shelters during storms. All buildings designated as listed below were inspected and approved by the Red Cross.
- Tenafly High School
- Tenafly Middle School
- Academy of Our Lady Of Mount Carmel
- The JCC on the Palisades.
None of the buildings above have emergency generators and the borough is applying for grants to pay for them, according to Councilman Anthony Barzelatto.
Other towns such as Fort Lee went as far as launching an emergency radio broadcast system to deliver local alerts. Teaneck and Englewood, have relaxed their land use regulations to make it easier for residents to put emergency generators on their properties.
