Tenafly Building Department Revamped

The building department responsible for enforcing various codes and issuing building permits in Tenafly has recently been re organized in efforts to streamline its activities. The new department is to be re named The Department of buildings. Frank Mottola, the former agency’s director and zoning officer, will no longer be with the department effective May 1. The functions of the zoning officer & the construction official are now  combined. The function of the  code enforcement officer was reduced to a part time position.

The New Department of Buildings will have three divisions:

• Construction Agency
• Division of Zoning
• Division of Property Maintenance

The new Department will no longer be responsible for for pet licenses. The borough clerk will assume this function. The overhaul of the department  will save $66,000 in the 2011 budget.
