Winston, the Shar-Pei dog was euthanized voluntarily shortly after a state Superior Court judge ruled that the Shar-Pei, , was dangerous and imposed fines and a costly special license upon the dog’s owner. The dog killed a small dog last October.
The Tenafly dog’s owner, Domini Sheets, opted to put down the dog following the advice of the veterinarian, Mangieri said. “The dog could not be adopted out because it was by court order impounded and not to be released,” she said.
The court imposed fines and demanded that Sheets apply for identification tags marking Winston as a dangerous dog, which come with a $700 annual fee. The judge also ordered the owner to take several safety precautions, including locking him in a pen and muzzling and tethering him when taking him outside. Read more
