The Tenafly Borough Council censured Councilman Barry Honig for it characterized as Honig’s “reprehensible, unwarranted, and lacking of common decency…” behavior.
The resolution that was approved at Tuesday night’s meeting, followed divisive comments by Honig at meetings and vitriolic letters to local newspapers, Mayor Peter Rustin said, adding that the final straw was that Honig jeopardized fellow Councilman Anthony Barzelatto’s livelihood.
Councilmen Honig and Barzelatto have long been political foes, but that’s no excuse for threatening someone’s job, said Rustin.
Honig called the United Nations, Barzelatto’s employer, and published a letter in a newspaper questioning whether Barzelatto was violating an agreement with his employer the UN by serving on the council.
