Tenafly Public School Budget 2013-2014

A $61.8 million budget  was  adopted by the Tenafly district board of education officials. Unlike the budget of 2011-2012 the new budget will not have a public vote because the state legislation allows school districts to adopt the budget as long as it stays within the mandated 2% tax levy cap.

The November 5th  general  will include the vote for school board trustees. This change is in effect or the next 3 years.

State aid for the district was flat at $1.3 million and any extra money found in the budget is earmarked to fund capital projects including new roofing at Stillman & Mackay Elementary Schools and sections of the Tenafly High School. The roof at Smith Elementary is slated to be replaced next year.

Other facilities upgrades include the replacement of the grass at the Geissinger Field with new turf within the next 3 years, allowing for additional use of the field for school related activities. The technology infrastructure will too have to be enhanced to meet the all state mandated testing that will be done electronically, that is in addition to adding iPads, tablets and other computer equipment .

The main expenditure of the budget are salaries and benefits to the staff…The only decrease in the budget is in debt services — funds that the district must pay for projects implemented in earlier years — with an amount of $2.5 million from $2.9 million.
