Thirty-two municipalities including Tenafly and Hudson County have approved resolutions supporting “Energy Strong” – PSE&G’s proposal to fortify its electric and gas distribution systems to better withstand powerful storms and natural disasters.
The proposal comes after bouts of extreme weather patterns that affected the tri state area and Tenafly in particular in recent years and caused extended outages the most recent of which lasted over a week .
PSE&G’s proposal includes: protecting more than 40 utility installations that were impacted by storm surges, adding backup distribution lines, making the electric grid smarter to help identify problems and facilitate service restoration, strategically burying some wires underground and modernizing the gas distribution system.
Tenafly’s council believes that these improvements will benefit the residents .
